Kijani Kijivu Bangles

  • By purchasing this bracelet you are helping to sustain women who are internally displaced due to the war in Northern Uganda. By helping these women to sell their products, we will improve their lives, because they will no longer need to break stones at the rock quarry for less than $1 a day. By making these bracelets, they can work in better conditions, provide for their children and make up to 20 bangles a day, which is four times the income they make breaking rocks for road base. 100% of the money from our sales will go back to help with our programs in Africa.
  • This pair of light olive green paper beaded bracelets will fit a 6” to 7” wrist. Between each paper bead are three iridescent glass beads. The beads are all strung on strong elastic. These bracelets are made in the Acholi Quarter Camp in Uganda by women that have been displaced due to war in Northern Uganda. They make the bracelets from recycled paper; for example paper used from old calendars and magazines. They cut the paper into triangles and tightly roll them. After rolling the bead, they dip them into varnish. They hang them to dry and re-varnish up to ten times before stringing them onto strong, stretchy elastic. All products are unique and no two are the same.
  • Think Humanity has been providing mosquito nets, clean water and education to refugees in Africa since 2007. We have distributed more than 20,000 mosquito nets; we have a Community Health Centre where we treat refugees and people from rural underdeveloped communities in Uganda and a girl's hostel where girls from South Sudan, Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo can receive safety, care and love while they get an education. One way that Think Humanity raises funds is by purchasing products made by women in the Acholi Quarter Camp just outside Kampala. These Acholi women are displaced due to war in Northern Uganda and South Sudan. We have been partnering with them since 2009. When you purchase a product through Think Humanity, 100 percent of the money will go back to help with our programs in Africa. Learn more about Think Humanity.
