With your Beaded Hope purchase you are empowering a woman in South Africa who has been impacted by the triple threat of hunger, poverty and disease. A $7 purchase provides the equivalent of a day’s worth of essential immune boosting vitamins to an HIV-positive artist. A $15 purchase provides the equivalent of two days worth of food to an artist, helping her care for herself, her family and, often times, her community.
Chichiboya (pronounced chi chi bow ya) quite literally means centipede in Sotho; one of the 11 national languages of South Africa. During an intensive beading workshop the artists giggled as they named this new bracelet design. Made of hundreds of little sparkling, olive green seed beads, this bracelet is sure to become one of your favorites. Each unique bracelet measures approximately 7.5” long and 1.5” wide and will arrive packaged, with a gift card, in an organza gift bag.
Beaded Hope is a non-profit dedicated to creating a sustainable marketplace in the United States for South African beadwork artists impacted by the triple threat of hunger, poverty, and disease. These artists are women who have passed down age-old beadworking traditions from one generation to the next. Working in community, they design and create traditional and modern jewelry, sparkling Christmas ornaments, heritage-inspired bookmarks and more. At Beaded Hope we believe in making a difference one woman (one artist) at a time. So, when your friends ask about your new purchase, tell them how you're changing the world, one woman at a time.
